New Delhi, Apr 30 (UNI) Duststorms today brought some relief for Delhiites reeling under the heat wave sweeping the capital since last week, with the mercury dropping to 40.4 degrees Celsius.

Though the maximum of 40.4 degrees C was still two degrees above normal, the sharp drop in mercury, from the season's highest of 42.4 Degree C during the weekend, provide some respite to the people of the city.

The coming days could bring more relief for Delhiites with the weatherman forecasting duststorms and thunderstorms in the city accompanied by squalls.

''Current meteorological analysis suggests possibility of duststorm/thunderstorm over plains of Northwest India. Consequently, duststorms or thunderstorms are likely over Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh during the next two to three days,'' the Met office said.

The met office has forecast a partly cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with the possibility of duststorms or thundershowers accompanied by squall.

They have also forecast a drop in maximum temperature in Delhi to 39 Degree C tomorrow.

The relief from heat wave is, however, expected to be temporary with the weather office forecasting a rise in day temperatures during the weekend.

Delhi has been reeling under a severe heat wave over the last week with the mercury rising to the season's highest of 42.4 degrees C on Saturday.
