City court summons Municipal Commissioner in spurious drugs matter

New Delhi, Apr 30 (UNI) A city court today ordered the Municipal Commissioner to be personally present before it on May 5 to respond to allegations that spurious drugs were being openly sold in Old Delhi.

Hearing a plea by social worker Pravin Kumar, Metropolitan Magistrate Ajay Goel directed the MCD Commissioner to be present before it to reply to allegations that fake drugs were being openly sold in a wholesale medicine market near Chandni Chowk.

Same drugs were being sold at different prices, the petitioner claimed.

The court had earlier summoned the Drug Commissioner in the matter on April 23 who explained that the area was under the jurisdiction of the MCD.

The petitioner had alleged the MCD and the police were hand in glove with the 'wrongdoers' who indulged in illegal practices from encroachment to selling duplicate products, including medicines.
