Brindavan Gardens opened for public after 84-day shut down

Mysore, Apr 30 (UNI) The famous Brindavan Gardens at Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir across river Cauvery near here was opened after 84 days due to agitation launched by farmers against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

The famous gardens beneath the dam had been closed since February five after the tribunal came out with its verdict.

Cauvery Niravari Nigama Executive Engineering and incharge of the KRS Vijay Kumar told UNI that thousands of tourists and locals thronged the gardens after it was thrown open today.

He said all the fountains had been checked and were fully functional.

As usual the illumination of the gardens had would be done daily.

One of the main attraction, the musical fountains, would enthrall the tourists on all days, he added.

The official said the level at the dam was reading a low 74 feet against the maximum level of 124.80 feet. Even though the level was less than last year, authorities expected rains in the catchment areas in the river Cauvery in the coming days.
