58 lakh tonnes wheat procured by govt agencies in Punjab

Chandigarh , Apr 30 (UNI) The government procurement agencies in Punjab have so far procured 53.32 lakh tonnes out of the 58.90 lakh tonnes that had arrived in the grain markets so far, Secretary Food and Civil Supplies Tejinder Kaur disclosed here today.

She said the department was monitoring the procurement process round-the-clock to avoid any type of harassment to the farmers either at the hands of the officials of various procurement agencies or commission agents. She said the farmers were also getting their due payments well within time.

She said while the state agencies Pungrain, Markfed, Punsup, PSWC and Punjab Agro's had procured a major share of the wheat, FCI had purchased 6.11 lakh tonnes. Private traders had procured 5.57 lakh tonnes so far.
