5 people killed in road accidents
Alappuzha, Mar 30 (UNI) Five people, including two children, were killed while one child was seriously injured in two separate accidents on National Highway-47, near Kayamkulam, in this district today, police said.
In the first accident, Kannan, an eight-year-old school boy, was killed after being hit by a tipper lorry while crossing a road this morning.
Infuriated residents of the area burnt the vehicle.
In another incident, four members of a family hailing from Nedumangad, near Thiruvananthapuram, were killed when their Maruti car, its way to Kochi, collided with a lorry near Kayamkulam on this afternoon.
The deceased were identified as M S Nath, 42, his wife Bindu, ten-year-old son Gokul and mother Lalithamma.
Geetha, his daughter, was seriously injured and had been admitted to the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital.
The lorry driver managed to escape, police said.
