5 people, including 2 kids, killed in separate road mishaps
Alappuzha, Mar 30 (UNI) Five people, including two children, were killed while one child was seriously injured in two mishaps on National Highway-47, near Kayamkulam, in this district today, police said.
In the first mishap in the morning, an eight-year-old school boy, Kannan, who was crossing the road, was killed after being hit by a tipper lorry. Infuriated residents of the area burnt the tipper lorry, police said.
In the other accident in the afternoon, four members of a family from Nedumangad, near Thiruvananthapuram, were killed when their Maruti car collided with a lorry near Kayamkulam. The family was going to Kochi.
The deceased were identified as M S Nath, 42, his wife Bindu, ten-year-old son Gokul and mother Lalithamma. His daughter, Geetha, was seriously injured and has been admitted to the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital.
The lorry driver managed to escape, police said.
