Temperatures cross 40 degrees Celsius mark in North West

Chandigarh, Apr 29 (UNI) Day temperatures in the plains of Punjab and Haryana continued to soar, with almost all places in the two states crossing the 40 degrees Celsius mark.

Hisar and Amritsar were the hottest places in the plains recording 44.6 degrees Celsius, seven degrees above normal and 43.1 degrees, seven degrees above normal, respectively. Temperatures at all the major places in the North West plains were four to seven degrees above normal.

In Himachal Pradesh, the capital resort of Shimla was warm at 26.3 degrees, five degrees above normal.

Ludhiana was hot at 41.8 degrees, five degrees above normal while in Patiala the maximum went upto 42.4 degrees, four degrees above normal.

In Haryana, Karnal was warm at 40.6 degrees, four degrees above normal while Ambala recorded a maximum temperature of 40.1 degrees, two degrees above normal.

The residents of Chandigarh too felt the summer heat with temperatures touching 40.2 degrees, four degrees above normal. The nights in the Union Territory were also fairly warm at 22 degrees, one degree above normal.

The day temperatures in the mid and lower hills of Himachal Pradesh also rose with Bhuntar recording a maximum of 34.2 degrees, five degrees above normal while Sundernagar was warm at 36.2 degrees.

The weather office has forecast light to moderate rain in Himachal Pardesh and dust storms followed by rain in isolated places in Punjab and Haryana.
