'Send money-making BSP elephant to jungle'
Varanasi, Apr 29: Film actor-turned Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Prada today termed BSP a ''money-making elephant, which should be driven away into the jungles''. Addressing an election meeting near the UP College here, the Rampur MP formed the BSP, a party which makes money by selling election tickets. 'The time has come when the money-making elephant ought to be driven to the jungles by the electorate,'' he says.
She underlined that being silent on Ms Mayawati's threats to senior Samajwadi Party leaders did not mean that they were weak.'' Let the time come and we will give a befitting reply to her,'' she asserted.
Meanwhile, addressing a rally in support of UP minister and party candidate from Chiraigaon seat Virendra Singh, Rajya Sabha MP and cinestar Jaya Bachchan said that the electorate of the only have four choices--either to vote for Congress which is working with a sense of vendetta, BJP which is dividing the society, BSP which is only playing jail politics or the SP which believes in development for all.'' ''I am sure the people will keep their faith in the last option by voting back the Mulayam Singh Yadav government to power,'' Ms Bachchan added.
Speaking at the same meeting, SP leader Amar Singh mocked BSP president Mayawati's threat of putting behind bars CM Mulayam Singh Yadav if she was elected to power. ''Ms Mayawati is oblivious that Mr Yadav is the successor of Lord Krishna (also a Yaduvanshi) who was born in jail but later became a symbol of the triumph of truth over evil.'' He claimed that Ms Mayawati was threatening to put behind bars top leaders of the party who protected her in all respect for the last three years.
Narrating the tale of development under the SP regime, Mr Singh said ''when we came to power, the state treasury was empty... but now, the same treasury is replete with Rs 25,000 crore.'' He also slammed the media, especially the English press for painting a doomed picture of the party at the hustings.
''In the Lok Sabha elections the media wrote us off, but we managed to win a large number of seats belying media predictions,'' he added.
