Sandeep, Bhandari star in ONGC's win in 20-20 cricket

Chandigarh, Apr 29 (UNI) A 60-run unbeaten association for the third wicket between Sandeep Sharma (44 not out) and Rizwan Shamshad (25 not out) helped star-packed Oil and Natural Gas Corporation score a facile eight-wicket victory against Chandigarh Lawyers Sports Association in a group A match in the first edition of the All India Prize Money Invitation Twenty20 Cricket Tournament at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium here today.

ONGC romped home with eight overs and two balls to spare.

The tournament is being conducted by the Chandigarh Twenty20 Cricket Association under the aegis of the Indian Twenty20 Cricket Federation and the Chandigarh Olympic Association.

Set to score 83 for victory, ONGC suffered an early blow as they lost opener Mithun Minhas who was caught by Vineet Soni of the bowling of Hemant Bassi without any run on the scoreboard. Amit Sharma (15) joined Sandeep Sharma and they carried the score to 26 before the former was caught by Soni of the bowling of Sandeep Moudgil (1 for 16).

ONGC were not much bothered about losing two wickets. New comer Rizwan Shamsad (25 not out) and Sandeep surpassed the Chandigarh Lawyers Association total by posting 86 without any further loss in 11.4 oovers. Sandeep's unbeaten knock of 44 contained six fours and one six and came in 30 balls. Rizwan reached the fence three times in his 25 which came from 22 balls and in 28 minutes.

Earlier, Chandigarh Lawyers SA were dismissed for 82 in 19 overs.

The lawyers could not counter the bowling of the ONGC. Amit Bhandari (2 for 33), Sumit Narwal (2 for 9) and Rahul Sanghvi (2 for 8) restricted the Chandigarh Lawyers. P S Hundal (11), A D S Sukhija (13), Harkesh (12) and Vishal Sharma (10) were the only batsmen who could reach the double figure.

Sandeep Sharma and Amit Bhandari of ONGC were jointly declared the man of the match.
