'Right to Recall' best way to end corruption: Somnath
Bangalore, Apr 29 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today said 'Right to Recall' was the best way to put an end to increasing corruption committed by peoples' representatives.
Speaking at the 125th graduation ceremony of St Joseph's College here, he said he was the 'strongest' votary for bringing such a legislation through which people could recall their representatives who had betrayed them.
''I can't move anything in Parliament in this regard eventhough I am the strongest supporter of the 'Right to Recall'. Unfortunately the situation is such that I can't even speak my mind in the Parliament,'' he regretted.
The Speaker called for people's intervention to deal with corrupt members of the Parliament.
The society should impose punishment on corrupt Parliamentarians, he said.
''I know you (people) are disgusted. But please don't reject the whole system of Parliamentary democracy. Parliament is a glorious institution formed by our founding fathers. My dream is that this great institution be rid of corruption,'' he said.
He said he wanted the people to be more sensitive on what was happening inside the Parliament. The media should not only project the 'black sheep', but also highlight the good things done by the Parliament.
Good deeds done in the Parliament are not highlighted, he said.
