Punjab should have a special team for human trafficking cases

New Delhi, Apr 29 (UNI) Former Union Minister B S Ramoowalia today urged Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to appoint a Assistant Director General of Police level officer to deal with the travel agents menace and human trafficking cases.

Mr Ramoowalia, President of Lok Bhalai Party which takes pride in being the only party which fights for women from Punjab who have been duped and victimised by dubious travel agents, in a statement said the fake agents were wrecking havoc on the lives of lakhs of women by selling dreams of foreign shores and relieving them of crores of rupees. The so-called immigration consultants, marriage bureaus, air-hostess and hospitality academies were operating through their touts without fear of law leaving lakhs of people stranded in western countries. Unsuspecting girls were smuggled to western countries and force into immoral businesses, he said.

The Former Union Minister said many of these agents and touts were operating with the collusion of police and at times were refusing to return the money. ''Hence a team of police under ADGP would instill fear of law into these criminals,'' he added.
