New gen bank staff should fight for rights : CM

Kochi, Apr 29 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today said the employees' of new generation banks and insurance sector should fight for their rights to defeat ''opportunists'' working against them.

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the 'New Generation&Insurance Employees' convention here Mr Achuthanandan said the new generation bank employees should stand up for their rights as globalisation had entered the banking sector in a big way.

'' There are opportunists working for globalisation and they have worked against the interests of the employees,'' he added.

He also crticised the managements' of international banks for not providing proper salary revision, maternity benefits and job security through insurance scheme.

Citing the example of the Lord Krishna Bank (LKB) merger, the chief minister lauded the efforts of the LKB employees who fought 'tooth and nail' to the stop the merger.

Mr Achuthanandan hoped the new organisation would be a perfect platform to address the problems of the employees.Parliamentarian Chandran Pillai was also present on the occasion.
