Aurangabad, Apr 29: Muslim Forum here today launched a mass awareness campaign about the Sachar Committee recommendations and announced a series of programmes to create pressure on the government to implement the report.

While interacting with the media on the sidelines of the inaugural move of the forum, senior Congress leader and Maulana Azad Vichar Manch (MAVM) chairman Hussain Dalwai said the move will create an awareness among the Muslims and will follow up the issue with the government.

The Sachar Committee has indicated that there has been a sharp decline in the social, educational and economic status of the Muslims. It has also stated that the Muslim representation in government services, even in a progressive and high literacy state is pathetic.

The forum proposes to create pressure on the government to consider the facts as stated in the report and take initiatives to bring the Muslim community into the mainstream of development.

The forum had invited prominent leaders from the community and social activists at the workshop on the issue held here today.

Mr Dalwai said the MAVM has invited prominent leaders at the second such workshop to be held in Nagpur on May 16 to highlight their demands. He said the forum has invited Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Prabha Rau for the Nagpur meet.

Mr Dalwai said a signature campaign will be carried out across Maharashtra to garner support on the issue. Representation will also be made to the Prime Minister in this regard, he said.
