Mizoram to prepare itself for Look East Policy
Aizawl, Apr 29: Mizoram is likely to benefit from the Centre's Look East Policy.
Speaking at a seminar - "India's Look-East Policy: A perspective" - organised by the Mizoram University's Political Science department here yesterday, IFS (retired) official Lalthanzauva Pudaite stressed that Mizoram would gain from the Policy depending on its preparedness to accept it.
''Whether or not we will benefit from the proposed international highway connecting India and Myanmar via Mizoram and the Sittwe sea port, which are parts of the Look East Policy, will depend on how well we are prepared,'' Mr Pudaite stated.
Instead of avoiding the Look East Policy, which is now a part of globalisation, it should be accepted wholeheartedly, he added.
He said, initially, the Centre did not take interest in the Look East Policy.
''It was only after the Indian ambassadors to the South East Asia insisted that the Look East Policy would boost India's economy that the Centre was convinced,'' he added.
''Even though the Centre has not issued a white paper in regards to the Policy, all initiatives have been taken to turn the policy into reality,''he informed.
