Kalyan predicts Vajpayee's govt at Centre if BJP wins in UP

Varanasi, Apr 29 (UNI) BJP's UP chief ministerial candidate Kalyan Singh today said the party's return to power in Uttar Pradesh will pave the way for the return of the Vajpayee government at the centre within six to eight months.

''This election is not only an electoral contest, but an ideological battle between Islamisation of politics and Hindutwa philosphy. If the BJP is voted to power in UP with a clear majority then the ever popular government of Atal Behari Vajpayee will also return to power at the Centre in six to eight months,'' Mr Singh said while addressing an election meeting in the Maidagin area here this evening.

''There has been no other pro-people government at the centre like the one led by Atalji. A majority for the BJP in UP will ensure the reverse countdown of the anti-people UPA government followed by mid-term Lok Sabha elections in six to eight months time which will certainly lead to a majority government led by Mr Vajpayee,'' Mr Singh maintained.

Mr Singh, recalled about the ''good governance'' of his government in 1999, said ''only a clear-cut majority for the BJP in UP can make the state see the return of my 1991 style government.

The choice is yours, whether you want a BSP regime of Mayawati that will immerse the state into corruption or the return of jungle rule of Mulayam Singh Yadav.'' ''There are three chief ministerial candidates and only one of them ... me is honest. No one can spot even a single stain on the clean and good governance offered to the state twice by my governments,'' he added.

Decrying both the BSP and SP for pursuing the politics of revenge by threatening to put behind bars their opponents if voted to power, Mr Singh said ''we will not put either Mulayam or Mayawati behind the bars. The deeds of the two leaders and the CBI and judiciary will pave the way for both the leaders to the prison. The BJP government will only provide both the leaders space in the prison of their choice, but in separate barracks of the same jail''.

Mr Singh ended the 40-minute speech with an appeal for votes. ''I am not begging for votes, but asking for a loan of your major electoral support which will be paid back to you alongwith interest.'' He also promised to establish the rule of law in the state in 30 days if elected to power. ''All criminals, irrespective of their patronage will be either put behind bars, forced to leave the state or else killed in encounters.'' UNI
