New Delhi, Apr 29: Concerned over the threat posed by terrorism to international community, leading religious and political leaders from different communities have decided to come together on a common platform to consider effective ways to tackle the menace.

A two-day international conference, titled 'Islam on Terrorism', will be organised here in October in which religious leaders and political figures from more than 20 countries will participate to formulate a strategy to fight international terrorism, according to Syed Yahya Bukhari, President of the newly-floated Jama Masjid United Forum (JMUF), a non-governmental organisation.

He said the JMUF had been formed under the patronage of his father and former Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, Maulana Syed Abdulla Bukhari, to mobilise awareness about the problem of terrorism and its Islamic perspective.

The JMUF has decided to organise a day-long preliminary meeting here on May 26 to chalk out the programme for the international conference. ''Art of Living'' Guru Shri Shri Ravi Shankar and Pakistani politician and former cricket skipper Imran Khan have agreed to participate in it.

He said Delhi Chief Minister Sheika Dikshit would formally launch the JMUF website at a function at her chamber here tomorrow. The function would be attended by leading personalities from different walks of life.

He said the aim of the JMUF would be to ''eradicate the menace of terrorism from the face of the earth and work for the promotion of brotherhood and global peace.'' He said the JMUF would soon set up a dispensary equipped with modern facilities in the Jama Masjid complex to provide free of cost treatment to the poor and needy.
