HC advocate held on cheating charges
Chennai, Apr 29 (UNI) The Central Crime Branch police arrested a city-based advocate for allegedly cheating an aged man to the tune of Rs 10 lakh.
The arrested, Muruganandam, an advocate in Madras High Court, approached Mr S M Thomas of Shenoy Nagar in the city and promised him to purchase a prime land at Rs 30 lakhs, from David Prabakaran of the same locality. Mr Thomas had given a cheque for Rs 10 lakh advance for the same, police said yesterday.
Muruganandam opened a bank account in the name of David Prabakaran by using fake documents with the Indian Bank branch at High Court premises and encashed the cheque.
On a complaint from Mr Thomas, police arrested the advocate.
He was later remanded to judicial custody.
