French amusement park accident injures 24

LILLE, France, Apr 29 (Reuters) Twenty four people were injured today when an amusement park ride in northern France plunged to the ground, local officials said.

The ride, a sort of basket that turned on itself, fell about 10 metres (33 ft), local official Roger Reuter said.

The exact cause of the accident in Tournehem-sur-la-Hem near the town of Saint-Omer in the Pas-de-Calais department was not immediately known.

Four people were seriously injured, and 15 ambulances and 3 helicopters were sent to the scene.
