Fatmi threatens to resign if Sachar recommendation not implemented
Darbhanga, Apr 29 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Mohd Ali Ashraf Fatmi today threatened to resign if recommendations of Sachar Committee were not implemented in toto.
Addressing a function organised here to mark the platinum jubilee celebration of a school, Mr Fatmi said the representation of the Muslims in government services was an "abysmal low" as compared to their population. As the convener of the Action Taken Committee(ATC) constituted for the implementation of the Sachar Committee recommendation, he had submitted the ATC report to the Centre, which refers to the prevailing poverty among the Muslim Dalits and requested the union government to provide reservation to them in educational institutions.
Referring to the scenario of West Benagal in this regard, he said the total population of the minority community in the state was 25 per cent, while their representation in government services was merely two per cent.
The situation is worse in Uttar Pradesh where only five per cent of the community were in government services while their population was 18 per cent of the total population of the state, he said.
In Bihar, however, the situation was relatively better as eight per cent of the minority community were in government service while their population was 16 per cent of the total population of the state, he claimed.
