Thane, Apr 29 (UNI) Thane Deputy Collector B L Giri has been arrested along with his family members for their alleged complicity in the murder of his daughter-in-law over demands for dowry.

They were arrested after they surrendered to police.

The police had earlier arrested Giri's son, Dileep for allegedly strangulating his wife Kalpana on January 18 this year, over dowry demands.

Immediately, after Dileep's arrest, his family had fled and was untraceable. It is believed the family had been hiding in various places including Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Ooty and Gujarat.

Meanwhile, Giri had filed an anticipatory bail application, which was rejected by both district and High Courts. Later, he challenged the HC order in the Supreme Court.

The victim's father B D Puri, a government employee, had demanded that the case be handed over to the CID, which was subsequently done.

On April 26, the Supreme Court dismissed Giri's anticipatory bail application following which, he surrendered on Friday to the Badlapur Police along with his wife Sharda, son Deepak and daughter-in-law Poonam, who handed them over to the CID.

They were produced before the Ulhasnagar Magistrate yesterday, who remanded them to police custody till May 4.
