Decision on manning level crossings in TN soon
Vellore, Apr 29 (UNI) Minister of State for Railways R Velu today said the Ministry will come out with a decision on manning all the level crossings in Tamil Nadu after holding discussions with Railway Minister Lalu Prasad.
Talking to newspersons here after inspecting gauge conversion works, Mr Velu said, the Ministry will consider manning the unmanned railway gates after holding discussions with the higher ups.
Mr Velu said the ongoing Katpadi-Vellore gauge conversion works will be extended to Tiruvannamalai.
Referring to various measures being taken up by Railways, he said with an allocation of Rs 232 crore, a broad gauge line wll be laid in Katpadi-Villupuram sector.
The Centre has sanctioned funds to construct 39 flyovers in the current year and the works will start once the state government's shares are obtained.
Around 230 places across the country, will have small bridges apart from the construction of 17 bridges and 27 subways. The automatic signals, which are now operating between Chennai to Kudiyaatham, will be extended till Jolarpet, he said.
