Couple killed, 41 injured in two separate accidents

Chennai, Apr 29 (UNI) A couple was killed and 41 others were injured in two separate road accidents in Salem and Cuddalore districts of Tamil Nadu early this morning.

Police said one Sivakumar, a textile owner, and his wife Jeevarani of Ulundurpet were killed on the spot when the car in which they were travelling hit a roadside tree at Kondalampatti in Salem district. The car driver, Shameer Basha, was injured in the accident.

In another accident at Venganur village in Cuddalore district, 40 persons, including two engineers of SARR centre in Sriharikota, were injured when the state-owned bus fell into a roadside canal.

The accident occurred, when the driver lost control of the bus, after one of the front tyres burst.

The injured were admitted to government hospitals at Perambalur, Tiruchirapalli and Thittakkudi, police added.
