Udupi, Apr 29 (UNI) Agitators opposing a thermal power plant in this district today, asked the Karnataka Government to constitute a committee to look into the impact of the plant, following an appeal by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to drop the protest.

Nagarjuna Virodhi Horata Samiti member Vijay Kumar Hegde told newspersons here that people have not made the protests a 'prestige issue' as alleged by the Chief Minister. It is a question of survival of the people of the district due to the adverse ecological effects.

He said the state government should appoint a committee, comprising experts from both government and non-governmental organisations, to look into the various aspects of the project. It should also hold a public-hearing on the project.
