Shillong, Apr 29 (UNI) Meghalaya's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has exhumed the mortal remains of a female domestic help, who was allegedly murdered in the residence of former state Director General of Police William Richmond Marbaniang.

The body of Rinehskhem Kharshohnoh (26) was exhumed yesterday at her ancestral Jongksha village, about 35 kms from here in the presence of forensic experts and doctors from the Guwahati Medical College in Asom, following an order by the Court of Additional Majistrate.

Kharshohnoh was alleged to have been ''murdered'' on March 7 in Mr Marbaniang's residence at Upper Nongthymmai area here.

The exhumation was necessitated after the CID, investigating into the incident, considered the possibility that she may have been murdered after post mortem reports conducted by a government doctor here confirmed that Kharshohnoh was murdered and did not commit suicide as maintained by the police, police said.

''The throat was slit by some hard, sharp-edged object with a force so massive that it completely detached the neck, except the skin fold at the nape,'' the post mortem report said.

Chief Minister D D Lapang had admitted that the domestic help was ''murdered'' at the residence of the former police chief.

Earlier, this month a Division bench of the Gauhati High Court in Shillong issued a notice to the Meghalaya police to speed up its investigation into the alleged murder of Kharshohnoh.

Last week, a CID team, in the presence of a magistrate, raided the residence of the senior police officer and questioned his family members.
