AP Govt to purchase power from states

Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, Apr 29 (UNI) In an effort to bridge the gap between power supply and demand, especially in the agricultural sector, the Andhra Pradesh Government would purchase electricity from other states, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy said today.

Participating in 'Prajapatham' programme organised at Kunchepalli Village in Prakasham District, Dr Reddy said the government was holding consultations on the issue with other states for providing sufficient power to farmers in the coming season His government's aim was to ensure not even a single acre of land suffered from drought.Calling on all women to join SHGs, he said the government would provide institutional credit to all the members.

A report from Eluru quoting Dr Reddy said the Polavaram Irrigation Project would be completed in two to three years following 'clearance from the Supreme Court.' He also said the Tallapudi Lift Irrigation Project on River Godavari would also be completed and to minimise crop loss in West and East Godavari Districts, the authorities would take up work on strengthening bunds.

The government had embarked on Prajapatham for solving people's problems relating to drinking water, housing and power among others.
