Actor Sarath Kumar fuels speculation on party launch

Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu, Apr 29 (UNI) Fuelling speculation of the launch of a political party, yet another by a matinee idol in the state, popular filmstar Sarath Kumar is attempting to lay claim on the Kamaraj legacy with the construction of a mega memorial for the Congress stalwart and former chief minister.

After having been in the company of the two dominant Dravidian parties, the DMK, of which he was a Rajya Sabha MP and the AIADMK, the actor, hailing from the powerful mercantile Nadar community, has given enough indication of floating his own political outfit.

The foundation stone laying ceremony held this evening, while signalling the end of his political hibernation, has also given a fresh momentum to attempts of consolidating the Nadars.

In making this a broadbased political platform, the actor is relying on the support base of his huge fan following and that of the community.

In his own words, Sarath Kumar is not averse to launching a political outfit and maintains the function for the memorial, graced by Congress leaders, Pondicherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy and Union Minister E V K S Elangovan, besides a host of leaders from various political outfits, was the beginning of a political process he has stepped into.

Introspection and repositioning of his stand after severing ties with the Dravidian parties, it was, he explained.

A firm 'no' had been his answer to those entertaining any doubt about his ploughing a lone furrow in the political arena and the actor is hopeful that the new outfit, if and when launched, would be a major player in the state.

Will it then be a party of the Nadars? For even while eulogizing Kamaraj and his rich legacy, Sarath does not lose sight of combining it with the community's political aspirations.

Iconic image of Kamaraj, identified with simplicity and good governance, serves the purpose of retrieving the community's pride as well as feeding the slogan of re-establishing the 'golden rule' of Kamaraj.
