A woman rescued from home after 15 years

Kolkata, Apr 29 (UNI) A woman, who was confined by her in-laws in a small and dingy room for 15 years at their Uday Chandra Roy Road residence near Baruipur, was rescued by police.

The Baruipur police today said that she was imprisoned by her in-laws as she was unable to bring enough dowry.

Police said the woman, Madhavi Das (40), was found locked in the room when policemen broke in with help from neighbours yesterday.

Three members of the family, including her daughter, were arrested following the rescue.

The police has sent Madhavi first to the Baruipur hopital, then to Chittaranjan Medical College for treatment and finally admitted her in an asylum.

Police said she was married to Madhusudan twenty years back.

However, soon after a few years of marriage, Madhabi's mother-in law and husband started torturing here for dowry. When she refused to succumb to their demands, they confined her in the room, police added.
