42 people arrested on World Cup betting
Bangalore, Apr 29 (UNI) Continuing its drive against betting on cricket, police arrested 42 people including two bookies in the Bellary and in the city and seized Rs 3.23 lakh in cash from them.
Additional Director General of Police Shankar Bidri told UNI that two places in Brahmin street and Brucepet respectively, had been raided in Bellary city and 40 persons were arrested while betting on the World Cup final between Australia and Sri Lanka last night and seized Rs 1.58 lakh from them.
Bangalore City Crime Branch police raided a house in J J Nagar last night and arrested two bookies and seized documents relating to betting and Rs 1.65 lakh in cash. Another person was at large.
This is the sixth such incident that had come to light in the city during the World Cup.
