Work on Polavaram project soon

A.Mallavaram, East Godavarai District, Andhra Pradesh, Apr 28 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy today said Supreme Court has given clearance for Polavaram project and work would commence immediately .

Launching the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (NREP) here by inaugurating the deepening of tanks, Dr Reddy said the Polavaram project would benefit a large number of farmers.

He said the NREP would also provide employment for one person in each family. Under the ''Jalayagnam'' project in the last three years, 12 lakh acres were brought under irrigation.

Another 12 lakh acres were targetted for the current year. The intention of 'Prajapadham' scheme was to solve the problems of the public, he said.

For the economic development of women, the goverenment was distributing 25 paise interest rate loans.

Dr Reddy said the state goverenment had spent Rs 13,000 crore on power sector to ensure that no of land acre dried up for the want of power supply.
