Woman member creates flutter in House

Chennai, Apr 28 (UNI) A woman member of the main Opposition AIADMK today created a flutter in the Tamil Nadu Assembly when she threw a pin box towards the treasury benches.

The incident occurred during Question-Hour when the House witnessed noisy scenes over a remark made by Congress Whip Peter Alphonse on yesterday's statement issued by the Leader of the Opposition and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa criticising the police, State and the Central Governments.

Amid heated outbursts from the Opposition and the Treasury benches, the box flew towards the treasury bench, triggering yet another bout of heated exchanges.

Speaker R Avudaiyappan said he had seen Ms Thenmozhi (AIADMK) holding the box and asserted that it came from her side. However, the AIADMK member, refuted 7 the charge saying since the box was hurled at her from the other side and she threw it back.

As AIADMK members, including Deputy leader of the Opposition O Panneerselvam and Party Whip K A Sengottaiyan came to her rescue, Mr C Govindasamy (CPI-M) clarified that the pin box was with Mr Arul Anbarasu (Congress) and when the latter tried to lift his bag, the box inadvertently fell on Ms Thenmozhi, who was seated behind the Congress member.

After this the Speaker brought the issue to an end by warning the AIADMK member that she should have reported it to him instead of hurling it back.
