Hyderabad, Apr 28 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Major Irrigation Minister P Laxmaiah today alleged that the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was 'politicising' the Babli issue even after the Supreme Court on April 25 gave interim orders to the Maharashtra government that it should not erect crest gates at the project.

Addressing mediapersons here, Mr Laxmaiah pointed out that the counsels, appointed by the state government, had argued their best at the hearing and curbed the illegal activity of the Maharashtra, which had taken up the project works without obtaining permission from the Central Water Commission (CWC).

Alleging that the TDP was levelling allegations against the government, ignoring the facts to gain political mileage, the Minister said he was ready for an open debate on Babli.

Criticising the TDP for not allocating sufficient funds for the construction of the Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) during its nine-year rule, Mr Laxmaiah alleged that the party had mortgaged the state's interests during construction of the Almatti dam by the Karnataka government.
