Seminar on 'Changing Geo Hydrological Scenario' from tomorrow

Bangalore, Apr 28 (UNI) A Two-day National Seminar on 'Changing Geo Hydrological Scenario in Hard Rock Terrains of India', organised by the Geological Society of India (GSI) will be held here from tomorrow to discuss the status of natural water sources in the country.

Briefing newspersons here today, Seminar Convenor J K Jamadar of GSI Karnataka Chapter, said that increasing demand and diminishing sources of fresh water had been scaring the society and life at large. It was observed that since the last five decades, there were major changes like dwindling of water bodies and steep decline of the ground water levels.

"These kinds of situations exists in the hard rock terrain of India, which covers a major part of the country. In view of stock taking of the situation and introspect the interventions that are being carried out to rejuvenate the sources, we are organising this seminar," he added.

Over 200 specialists from different parts of the country would be taking part in the seminar in which 40 papers would be presented and discussed.
