Pension announced for those jailed during JP movement

Patna, Apr 28 (UNI) The Bihar government has decided to honour those who were jailed during 1974-77 movement, launched by veteran socialist leader Jay Prakash Narain, by giving monthly pension to them, State Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah today said.

The state government would also honour the dependants of those killed during the JP movement, he added.

Mr Amanullah said the government had constituted a four-member ministerial group, headed by Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, to finalise the modalities, eligibility and amount of the pension.

The other members of the committee include Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh, Urban Development Minister Ashwini Kumar Chaubey and Excise Minister Sudha Srivastav.

The committee is expected to submit its report within three months, he added.

He said the government would procure related documents from district police records and jail to identify the bonafide persons eligible to get the benefits.
