Normalcy returns to AMU, 3 officials resign

Aligarh, Apr 28 (UNI) Even as normalcy has returned to the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), three officials, including the varsity Proctor have resigned.

AMU Vice Chancellor Samimuddin today confirmed having received the resignation letters of Registrar Faizan Mustafa, Proctor Iklaq Ahmed and Controller of Exams Abbas Mehndi late last night.

Tension had gripped the AMU, when over 500 students went on a rampage, following the murder of two students in the last 25 days in the varsity premises.

The agitated students had roughed up the proctor after he refused to meet them. Besides, the mob vandalised the varsity property and so far been sitting on a 'dharna' to demand speedy action against the accused.

This afternoon, the agitating students ended their protest after DM Santosh Yadav, SSP Akhil Kumar and the VC assured action against the accused, besides recommending a CBI probe.

Meanwhile, all general examinations have been postponed till April 30, while B Tech and M Tech exams have been postponed till May 5, official sources informed.
