Media 'exaggerated' borewell mishap: Kumaraswamy

Raichur, Apr 28 (UNI) Chief Minister H D Kumara Swamy today expressed his dismay over a section of the media blowing out of proportion the borewell mishap at Neermanvi village in which a 8-year-old boy died despite a over 56 hour efforts to save him.

Talking to newspersons here, he blamed that a private TV channel for unfairly putting the government at fault.

"A section of the print media and a news channel over reacted and exaggerated the story. During their interview of villagers they forced people to say that the government failed to do anything, he alleged.

The Chief Minister appriaciated the district officials for their long effort to save the boy from the borewell.

Dismissing the opposition Congress party's charge that his government had failed in taking steps to save the boy and the late arrival of the district-in-charge minister to the site, the Chief Minister clarified that the district-in-charge minister could not visit the site early as he had to attended cabinet meeting. However he had maintained continuous touch with the district officials, he added.

He asked the Congress leaders to retrospect what they did when during floods occurred during their regime.

The Chief Minister later handed over a cheque for Rs one lakh to the brothers of the boy as the parents had taken ill.
