Homesick Indian rips open his stomach in suicide bid

Dubai, Apr 28 (UNI) A homesick Indian worker, unable to pay his sponsor the expenses involved in getting his work and residence permit, ripped open his stomach in a suicide bid, police said.

S Kumar, in his early 20s, was found in a pool of blood on Wednesday by a colleague at his work place in Sharjah's industrial area and was taken to hospital.

Kumar told police that he was not able to cope with his new life here and wished to go back to India, which his sponsor allegedly rejected.

''I begged him to let me go but he refused,'' Gulf News quoted him as saying.

The sponsor apparently told him he could not send him back as he had already spent a lot of money to bring him here to work.
