Hisar is sizzling at 44 degrees C

Chandigarh, Apr 28 (UNI) Hisar was sizzling at 44.4 degrees Celsius, seven degrees above normal, turning it into the hottest place in the Northwest plains.

The maximum temperature at most places in Punjab and Haryana was three to six degrees above normal. In Himachal Pradesh, the capital resort of Shimla was warm at 26.4 degrees, five degrees above normal. Today was the warmest day of the season in the capital hill resort.

Temperatures at all the major places in Punjab crossed the 40 degrees Celsius mark, with Amritsar turning out to be the hottest place at 42.5 degrees, six degrees above normal. Ludhiana was hot at 41.4 degrees while Patiala recorded a maximum of 41.3 degrees.

In Haryana, Karnal was warm at 40.5 degrees while Ambala recorded a maximum temperature of 39.6 degrees, three degrees above normal.

In Chandigarh, the temperature rose to 39.6 degrees, three degrees above normal. The nights in the Union Territory were also fairly warm at 22 degrees, one degrees C above normal.

The day temperatures in the lower hills of Himachal Pradesh also rose with Sundernagar recording a maximum of 26.3 degrees while Bhuntar was warm at 34.4 degrees.

The weather office has forecast mainly dry weather in the region with duststorms sweeping across parts of Punjab and Haryana.
