'Hip replacement' at Manipal on 60 year-old, successful
Vijayawada, Apr 28 (UNI) A team of doctors at Manipal Super Speciality Hospital here successfully performed a rare 'total hip replacement' (uncemented, metal on metal articulation) surgery on a 60-year-old man Amir Hamza three days back.
Addressing a press conference here today, Manipal Hospital General Manager (operations) Dr N Rajaram said Hamza was suffering from secondary osteoarthritis hip joint problem.
He said in this technique, the affected lining of the joint surface was replaced with a 'cobalt chrome metallic cup' on the autobular side and 'big metallic ball' on the femoral side.
The advantage of the technique was that the patient can perform all the normal activities unlike other conventional hip replacement.
Hamza would be discharged in the next three days, he added.
