Fake encounter case hearing not listed in SC on Monday
New Delhi, Apr 28 (UNI) The petitioner in the Gujarat fake encounter case will have to wait for Supreme Court verdict on the issue of ordering a CBI inquiry as the matter is not listed for hearing on Monday.
The bench, comprising Justices Tarun Chatterjee and P K Balasubramanyan, is not sitting on Monday and both the judges are sitting in different benches.
Earlier, the judge had indicated that they would pass an appropriate order after going through the report of the Gujarat police handed over to the court in a sealed cover.
The Gujarat government had admitted in the Supreme court that Soharabbudin Sheikh was killed in a fake encounter in November 2005 and his wife Kausar Bi might have also been killed.
Three senior IPS officers have since been arrested and the Gujarat police has raided the residences of some other police officers of DSP and inspector rank and more arrests cannot be ruled out.
The Centre is supporting the petitioner, Rabbaduddin Sheikh, who is demanding a CBI inquiry into the killing of his brother and sister-in-law in a fake encounter when the couple was travelling in a bus going from Hyderabad to Sangli on November 25, 2005.
One of the police informers, Tulsi Ram Prajapati, the sole eye witness, had also been killed by the police.
