Amrita Health Card Scheme launched

Kochi, Apr 28 (UNI) The Amrita Health Card Scheme, instituted by the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) here, to give free healthcare facilities to the rural poor, was launched today.

Under the scheme, launched on the first day of the Brahmasthanam festival, attended by Mata Amritanandamayi here,poor families around AIMS would be extended free medical aid up to Rs 10,000 per family per year.

At the same function, selected widows were handed over pension by MLAs K Babu and K V Thomas under the Amritanidhi Pension Scheme, while sewing machine kits were distributed among selected women under the Amritananadamayi Math sponsored Self Employment Scheme for poor women.

According to Math officials, nearly 100,000 people thronged the Edappally Brahmasthanam as the two-day temple festival commenced this morning.

The festival commenced with Lalithasahasranama Koti Archana in which over 2,000 women participated. This was followed by 'satsang', 'bhajan' and meditation led by Amma. More than 100 devotees from abroad are also attending the festival, they said.
