Three extortionists nabbed in Kaithal

Kaithal, Apr 27 (UNI) Police have arrested three extortionists who allegedly demanded Rs 15 lakh from businessmen in two different cases, SSP Navdeep Singh Virk said here today.

The SSP told reporters that Kuldip Rajput, a resident of Padma Patti Kalayat had threatened Manmohan Sharma a property dealer of Kalayat demanding Rs 10 lakh as ransom from him. On the victim's complaint police arrested Kuldip and recovered a pistol and some cartridges from him.

Later, court issued arrest warrants against kuldip's absconding accomplice Mohni alias Gurbaksh of Layalpur Basti, Kurukshetra, who was wanted by the police in many other cases as well. Mohni was also nabbed and was booked under section 387,506,34 and 451 IPC and has been sent in judicial custody by the local court, the SSP added .

In the other incident, Mr Virk said the owner of a local sweet shop, Romesh Garg lodged a complaint with the police that a man was calling him up saying he must pay Rs 5 lakh or be ready to face the dire consequences.

In the latest call from a mobile phone on April 25, the person making the call asked prompt payment of Rs 5 lakh and threatened to eliminate his entire family if he failed.

The CIA branch which probed the case nabbed Ram Dia of Kasan village in whose name mobile connection was issued and his nephew Mohan Lal of the same village who made threatening calls. Both were arrested and booked under section 387 IPC.

On police request local court granted one-day police remand of Ram Dia and Mohan Lal.
