South African national gets 10 yrs RI for smuggling 'heroin'
Mumbai, Apr 27 (UNI) A special NDPS court today awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a South African national for smuggling 'heroin' and also slapped a fine of Rs one lakh on him.
Additional Sessions Court Judge P N Deshmukh, while delivering the verdict, said the accused will have to undergo further RI of three months if he failed to pay the penalty amount.
On November 11, 2002, the accused was intercepted at Sahar Airport here, by sleuths of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) and nine kilos of heroin was recovered from his posession, which he had concealed in his bag, before he was to board a Swiss flight.
