Chamba, Apr 27 (UNI) A sum of Rs 6.50 crore has been spent in Bhattiyat sub division in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh alone under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), state's Finance Commission Chairman Kuldeep Singh Pathania said.

In all, 10,000 families have been identified in Bhattiyat area of the district under the scheme, besides completing 1,500 new development projects, he said after inaugurating three primary schools at Bella, Angred and Thanoli here recently.

Referring to the ongoing road construction projects in the district, Mr Pathania said Mandrihar road would soon be completed, while the Jot to Angred road would be linked with Hobar within a month.

He said several drinking water supply schemes of Rs 4.50 crore were in different stages of completion and and added that the schemes once completed would help in solving the water problem for another 50 years.

Criticising the previous BJP government for closing primary schools with less than 20 students, the chairman said the present Congress Government had overruled that decision and decided that all primary schools would continue to function, irrespective of the strength they have.
