Peasants assaulted at Bangaon
Bangaon, Apr 27 (UNI) Two peasants were seriously injured by cattle smugglers at Naraharipur near Petrapol in North 24 Parganas today.
Police said the peasants were allegedly assaulted by the smugglers when they protested against smuggling of cattle.
The smugglers were passing through the farmlands while going to Bangladesh with 100 cows this noon, police added.
The injured peasants were later admitted to the Sub-divisional hospital here.
Enraged over the incident, irate villagers blocked the Jessore Road (NH34), linking the international corridor with Bangladesh, for a couple of hours.
They alleged that the BSF hardly took any steps to prevent smuggling even in broad daylight.
Police and the BSF later assured the villagers that they would take action against the culprits and convinced them to remove the blockade.
