Manipur observes 'Black day'

Imphal, Apr 27 (UNI) Manipur today observed 'Black Day' to mark the unfortunate event when it lost independence to the British Empire in 1891.

The British took over the then princely state on April 27, 1891 after defeating it in the 1891 Anglo-Manipur war.

A function, jointly organised by the International Peace and Social Advancement(IPSA), United People's Front(UPF) and Ethno Heritage Council(Hericoun) was held here at Kangla during the day.

Several eminent people spoke on the occasion.
