Mamata seeks Centres intervention into March 14 'mayhem'

Kolkata, Apr 27(UNI) Airing a veiled threat to line up the Nandigram 'rape victims' in front of the Prime Minister's residence, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today once again called for central intervention into the March 14 'mayhem'.

'' The Prime Minister cannot evade his responsibility. Many people were killed and more than 300 women tortured in Nandigram. Does he want the rape victims to stage a sit-in in front of his residence? Does he want us to go to Delhi?'' she said.

The Trinamool leader asserted that the Centre was under constitutional obligation to interfere in the state matters when the security of the people of minority communities, the scheduled castes and women was at stake.

Alleging that a state-sponsored terrorism was continuing in the Nandigram area ''at the instruction'' of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Ms Banerjee said the UPA Government at the Centre was keeping silent because of the Left support it was enjoying.

''The Centre and state Governments are in connivance to suppress whatever happened in Nandigram where many bodies still remain missing. It is only because the Left parties are extending support to the coalition Governenment at the Centre,'' she said.

Alleging that CPI(M) supporters, attacking Nandigram from outside, had whipped up a fresh violence in the area since last night, Ms Banerjee also warned the state Government against any 'disaster' that could take place any day.

''I appeal to the Chief Minister to control his partymen...do not play with fire...the state Government will be solely reponsible for any disaster that can take place any moment,'' she said.
