Malleswari prepares for Commonwealth Weightlifting championship
Patiala, Apr 27 (UNI) The country's ace woman lifter Karnam Malleswari is back in business and is now preparing diligently for the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship in Samoa this November.
She is training in the ongoing national junior weightlifting camp (women) here at the NIS here. The camp for senior lifters is in progress at the SAI Southern Centre in Bangalore, but Malleswari has come here to train with the juniors for sometime.
Malleswari who symbolizes the Amazon prowess in no uncertain terms. shot into the limelight in 1995 when she won the world title in 54 Kg category with an incredible performance of 113.0 Kg in clean and jerk. The thirtytwo-year-old gritty lifter, was the bronze medallist in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Married in 1997, Malleswari is determined to win a medal in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship in Samoa. "The allurement of big money has motivated Malleswari to return to the weightlifting platform after a long lay off," says the former National coach and Arjuna awardee Shyam Lal Salwan.
Talking to UNI, Malleswari said, "I need the blessings of my countrymen to do well in international competitions in the years ahead.
