LS adjourned for early lunch break on Gujarat issue

New Delhi, Apr 27 (UNI) The Lok Sabha was adjourned for an early lunch break for the second straight day today following disorder on the issue of alleged fake police encounters in Gujarat.

The issue was raised by Mr Ramjilal Suman (SP) during zero hour amid strong protests from BJP members who said the matter was sub judice as a case was pending before the Supreme Court.

Mr Suman said one Sohrabuddin Sheikh, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, was killed in a fake encounter in Gujarat and the state police had wrongly branded the victim as a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant.

He said this was not an isolated incident as there were 21 such cases and sought a inquiry against the Gujarat Home Minister who was ''part of the conspiracy.'' Mr Suman was supported by Mr Mohammed Salim (CPI-M). As the agitated BJP members continued to protest against the contention, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee adjourned the House at 1250 hrs for an hour-long lunch break till 1350 hrs.

The House was adjourned at the same time under similar circumstances yesterday. Raising the issue, Mr Madhusudan Mistry (Cong) had demanded a statement from Home Minister Shivraj Patil and a CBI inquiry into an encounter that had taken place in Gandhinagar, the Lok Sabha constituency of former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani.
