Raj: Villagers block highway to protest SP arrest
Alwar, Apr 27: Traffic came to a standstill on Jaipur-Delhi National Highway Number 8 this morning as irate villagers in Alwar district blocked the highway to protest the arrest of Alwar SP, Dinesh MN, in a fake encounter case.
The highway was jammed for about an hour by hundreds of villagers in Shahjahpur town, who gathered on the highway and blocked the road. Shahjahpur is on the border of Rajasthan and Haryana and is on the main thoroughfare between Delhi and Jaipur.
The Panachayat head of Shahjahpur led the protests by taking out mock dead bodies of Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, and Gujarat crime branch chief, Gita Johari, in a procession through the town and forced the closure of shops. Later they burnt the mock bodies and blocked the highway. Traffic on the busy highway came to a holt as protestors squatted on the road.
Attempts by the local police to pacify the agitators proved futile. Later Behrod SP, Rajesh Gupta, reached the spot and was handed over a memorandum by protestors. The police had a trying time while streamlining the traffic on the highway.
