IAF celebrates Platinum Jubilee in Andaman

Port Blair, Apr 27 (UNI) To commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the Indian Air Force (IAF) this year, the Air Force Component of the Andaman and Nicobar Command organised various programmes here today.

As a curtain raiser, the Air Warriors Symphony Concert Orchestra (AWSCO), which was formed by selecting musicians from various bands of Indian Air Force in April 2003, performed on the occasion.

The orchestra has about 70 musicians playing brass, wood-wind, reed, electronic and percussion instruments.

The objective of the AWSCO is to interact with the people and create awareness about the IAF through music and showcase what they are capable of, besides martial skills.

''The AWSCO symbolises teamwork, harmony, ethos and dedication,'' Commander Anil Kumar, Public Relations Officer of Andaman and Nicobar Command said today.

''Besides the Symphony orchestra concert, a number of other programmes, such as state-level open football and volleyball tournaments as well as mini marathons are also being organised,'' he added.

The IAF also has a giant base at Car Nicobar, which was ravaged by tsunami in 2004.
